Lofts are apartments located in industrial buildings that have been appropriately converted for this purpose, such as old warehouses, factories, or breweries. They have been popular in Western Europe for several decades. In Poland, they are just beginning to gain popularity, but are quickly attracting devoted fans. The term “loft” also refers to the style characteristic of this type of dwelling: raw and industrial, dominated by glass, steel, and stone.
Another important feature of lofts is their spaciousness. The rooms in these types of apartments are usually expansive, and the functional division of their individual areas does not always correspond to a clear architectural division. Therefore, the kitchen does not have to be separated from the living room or bedroom by a partition wall. This function is more often fulfilled by glass partitions or metal-and-glass structures in the form of so-called loft doors, made entirely of glass and metal.
Hard lofts, soft lofts, and loft doors
Loft doors are a relatively new concept on the Polish market, linked to the growing popularity of the loft trend. It’s worth noting here that not all apartments referred to as lofts are units created in old factory buildings. Such projects are known as “hard lofts,” but the real estate development market also includes a category called “soft lofts.” This refers to apartments built from the ground up in a style inspired by industrial design. Loft doors are an element of this style and can be used in both “hard loft” spaces and apartments, as well as houses whose decor draws on the loft aesthetic.
Industrial design is not a prerequisite for using loft doors. These doors offer a number of advantages, regardless of their original intended use. They are made of high-quality glass panels—impact- and scratch-resistant—set in steel or wooden frames. Moreover, the structure need not be limited to a door panel and frame; it can also include fixed elements that form a sort of partition wall.
What types of rooms are loft doors suitable for?
The key function of loft doors is precisely to separate rooms or individual sections of a larger room while maintaining full light transmission. This type of door works great in:
- large apartments and houses,
- offices, where they help organize workspaces more effectively,
- cafés and restaurants, where they help maintain the feeling of an open space while ensuring privacy for individual groups of customers,
- other types of commercial establishments.

Loft-style doors let light through but provide sound insulation and protect against unwanted odors, making them ideal for use in the kitchen, for example
Although loft-style doors do not act as a visual barrier, they do provide a high level of protection against noise from other parts of the room and also isolate against unwanted odors, such as those from the kitchen.
It’s worth noting that loft-style doors are also low-maintenance. Their glass surface is easy to clean, and thanks to their durability, they’re resistant to damage.
Construction of loft doors: glass, metal, wood
The frames in loft doors are typically made of metal, which emphasizes the industrial “origins” of this door style. However, other solutions are also available on the market, including wood. For example, in our Premium line of interior doors, we offer the Malaga A.3 model, which combines classic design with a modern, geometric style. The wooden frame is filled with glass panels in the loft-style door design.
The Malaga A.3 model in the RAL Structure finish in black, such as RAL 9004, looks very striking and is ideal for soft loft-style apartments, where metal profiles aren’t always the best solution. Wooden frames blend better with a design where warm, inviting elements dominate over industrial “coldness” and austerity.
Barański loft doors are available in any color option. They look beautiful in white, but customers can choose any color from the RAL palette—which includes 194 colors in its basic version.
Loft-style doors aren’t just for industrial-style apartments
The modern, loft-style “look” is also a hallmark of the doors from the Glass line. Their design works well in intimate interiors, bright lofts, and “soft loft” apartments, as well as in large office buildings. In the Glass models, minimalist styling is combined with a thoughtful, striking design. The lineup includes four designs available in black or white.
Doors from the Glass series lean more toward an industrial style. They let in light while providing noise protection. They’re perfect for home offices, among other uses
Barański loft doors are an excellent choice not only for fans of the industrial style, but above all for those who prefer a subdued, minimalist aesthetic and bright, light-filled interiors.
